Why you need full-fibre broadband with 8K TV (and prize draw)

If you’re planning on upgrading your TV this Christmas, you’ve probably already seen the buzz around 8K TVs. But what does 8K TV even mean, and why should you want one? And even more importantly, what else do you need to watch 8K TV content? Let’s take a look.

What does 8K TV mean?

8K TV is the next generation in High Definition television, following on from the latest Ultra HD (which was the equivalent of 4K).

  • Full HD (also known as 1080p) uses just over 2 million pixels to create the image.
  • 4K Ultra HD uses just over 8 million pixels
  • 8K uses over 33 million pixels!

Simply put, an 8K television has four times as many pixels as a 4K TV – and more pixels equals crisper details and vibrant colours for the best display you can currently get your hands on.

What can I watch in 8K?

While there isn’t currently a lot of content being filmed or streamed specifically in 8K, that will change very soon. Now that the technology to support 8K content is on the market, it’s only a matter of time before channels and streaming services play catch up and make higher definition content available – and you’ll want to have an 8K TV for when they do.

You’ll still see the benefits of all those extra pixels, even before 8K specific content is ready. The result is a display where every detail pops out from the screen at you. And if you’re going for a TV that’s around the 55” mark, the 8K TV comes into its own. The extra screen ‘real-estate’ highlights all those crisp details perfectly.

What else do I need to watch 8K TV?

When streaming services start to roll out new content, you’ll need to have fast, fibre broadband if you don’t want to experience buffering or lagging while you enjoy your new 8K content.

To make sure you can run your 8K TV and all your other home internet devices at the same time, you’ll need a 900Mbps broadband connection – and PureFibre 900 from Lothian Broadband is the perfect package to do just that.
