If you’ve been out and about in the Alness area over the last couple of weeks, you’ve probably seen some of the Highland Broadband engineers hard at work, building the network ready to deliver ultrafast broadband to houses in your area.

But they’re not the only Highland Broadband faces you’ll see in the local area. Over the coming weeks and months, our local Community Liaison Officer Claudette will be hitting the streets to help keep you all informed as the installation and network build moves forward.

We took some time to catch up with Claudette to find out what it means to be the Community Liaison Officer for the Highlands.

What does your role as Community Liaison Officer for the Highlands involve?

My role involves working with the communities in and around the areas where we’re building our ultrafast fibre network. I work closely with the communities’ councils, local groups, and residents to help minimise disruption as we build, as well as informing people of what ultrafast fibre broadband is. I love explaining the real benefits that having full-fibre broadband can bring to people and their communities.

What attracted you to this role?

I knew that bringing ultrafast fibre broadband to the Highlands was something special, and for it to be happening here where I live was even more exciting – I just knew I wanted to be part of the team bringing it to this area. I live rurally myself, so I fully understand the issues many of us have with slow and unreliable broadband.

What will be the impact of having full-fibre broadband available in the Highlands?

It’s going to be life-changing for so many people, businesses and communities. People will be able to work from home or start their own business. Education will be more accessible online. And watching TV or online gaming without lag will be a joy!

What’s your favourite thing about living in the area you do?

My favourite thing about living in the Highlands is the people and nature. There’s a real sense of community here, whether that be in towns, villages or even just a few houses in the middle of nowhere. Living in the Highlands is amazing, you’re never far from the sea or mountains and every day I see wildlife right outside my front door.

If you see Claudette while out and about in the local area, make sure to say hello! She’s on hand to answer any questions you might have about how you can get Highland Broadband in your home or business.
